Программа мероприятия

PURPOSE

Classrooms are not hermetically sealed spaces that are disconnected from the outside world. To the contrary, they are reflections of existing injustices, power relationships, diversities and differences in privilege which can influence our students’ learning process. Therefore, in this webinar we will explore classrooms as radical spaces of change; as environments that have the potential to scrutinize top-down processes of learning and locations which foster social justice. In doing so, we will also interrogate our very own role as educators acknowledging that we exist in relation with others, that we are embedded in environments that represent hegemonic concepts of societal and cultural ways of knowing and learning and that we do not enter the classroom as disembodied beings. Join us as we embark on this very personal and critical journey to explore the classroom as a transformative space towards social justice. There will also be time for Q&A.

Thanks to attending this webinar you will:

  • Gain insights into how differences in privilege and intersectional inequalities can influence the learning process.
  • Receive practical information ranging from content approaches to classroom strategies that can foster inclusion and belonging in the classroom.

Stella Saliari

Stella Saliari is a feminist researcher and social justice consultant committed to contributing to the success of organizations that strive towards achieving intersectional justice. She collaborates with both organizations in the not-for-profit as well as the Higher Education sector, presenting and researching on topics such as Eurocentrism and knowledge production, the politics of positionality, holistic and flexible resourcing.
She further curates and moderates events ranging from topics such as diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in international education, to trainings on feminist knowledge production and the feminist classroom. All her work is guided by interventions at epistemological levels, by challenging normalized assumptions while her research practice is intersectional, reflexive and participatory. She stands for co-creation of knowledge, applying non-extractive methods and entering into non-hierarchical relationships with the organizations and people she collaborates with.

Joanna Wrzesińska

Joanna Wrzesińska manages teacher training and outreach to organizations in EMEA as the Head of ELT and Institutional Relations at ETS EMEA. She is also a volunteer committee member of IATEFL TEASIG. Joanna holds an M.A. degree in TEFL and is based in Poland and Greece. Before joining ETS, Joanna worked as a teacher and academic manager in the private sector.
